Kawerau Pathways to Work
Kawerau Pathways to Work
Kawerau Pathways to Work (KPtW) is an employer driven initiative designed to establish a local ‘employer-employee connect’ system to improve the likely outcomes and sustainability of employment in our workplaces.
KPtW’s original He Poutama Rangatahi funded Cadetship and Industry Training Support Service programmes were discontinued as a result of the Covid-19 restrictions and replaced by a focus on understanding the Government support schemes for apprenticeships and redeployment of workers.
The pandemic has increased the trend of employers playing an expanded role in their employees’ financial, physical and mental wellbeing and the need to develop critical skills to drive resilient and efficient workflows.
Government’s cross agency support for business and employees is enabling employers to ‘grow their own’ workforce by engaging apprentices and upskilling their staff to adapt to changing demands.
KPtW are assisting in this process by establishing Employer Trade Clusters in Electrical, Mechanical and Auto Mechanical to provide support to both employers and all levels of apprenticeship through facilitating local study groups, pastoral care and numeracy/literacy classes for employees.
In conjunction with the Tertiary Education Commission and the Tarawera High School an Industry Advisory Group are developing the Student Pathway to Industry Entrance programme to showcase local workforce opportunities and provide career pathways for rangatahi.
